KOTA KINABALU: The Social Media, Whatsapp and other mode of communications are the main form of communications for most people in this days and age.
In fact, it has a positive impact for people who have been separated from their friends and families through the years.
It has not only enable them to become closer, but also enabled them to foster friendship and rapport among them. Some of them who have been friends in their childhood years had rekindled their friendship.
Through this communications, some 40 baby boomers celebrated life and living recently by coming together in their best traditional dress. The event organised by a group of childhood friends from Kampung Bambangan Inanam, aimed to foster friendship and rapport among the group of people while ensuring that language and tradition would not be forgotten.
The group of people who were in contact through the social media, Whatsapp, also hoped to produce excerpts of their memories growing up in the village, in a book, so that the next generation would understand the life of their elders who had to undergo swift changes in lifestyle with the onset of 'civilisation' after World War II. They enjoyed similar experiences as most of them attended the same primary school, St Catherine Inanam and secondary school, Lok Yuk Secondary School Likas.
Six of the revelers, who were born in 1958 and turned 58 years old this year celebrated their unique situation with a cake cutting ceremony.
Later that evening, lucky draws and presentation of gifts to best dressed in both traditional and creative traditional costume were held. -AG
